District Open Day

The Heavy Woollen District Open Day held today at the District HQ in Batley was a great success.

There were a lot of people who dropped in, we had Scouters young and old, members of the local community, ex Scouters and we even managed to get a new recruit for one of our Beaver Colonies!! The 2 hour timescale may have been a bit ambitious, as people began reminiscing and telling stories over tea and biscuits – at nearly 1pm everyone was wondering just where the time (and years) had gone.

On display were the Centenary Quilts, a display of new Scouting books, posters and information and many items of memorabilia including photographs, log books, annuals, trophies and many more.

Bob Glassup even managed to sell a over a hundred pounds worth of badges too!! Not bad to say he hadn’t planned on selling any at all, but as Bob said ‘If you’re spending, then I’m open!!’

It was great to see so many people attending, including many members of the fellowship and ex Scouters. A photograph was taken of Alan, Mona & Bob, the oldest members of the Heavy Woollen District with the Centenary Quilts, and also David Thornton (District Commissioner) and David Pepperday (District Chairman).
